Richard L Abbott, MD
Dr Abbott has authored 90 peer reviewed publications and 32 book chapters, and presented 700+ invited lectures and 27 named lectures. His research and teaching address clinical practice guidelines, development of cognitive knowledge modules and ethics regarding eye care and eye surgery.
He is the recipient of a number of awards, including the U.S. president’s 25-year Volunteer Service Award, the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Lifetime Achievement Award and the Duke Elder International Gold Medal.
Dr Abbott is affiliated with numerous societies, including: Past president of the American Academy of Ophthalmology; Past president of the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology and the Pan American Ophthalmological Foundation; Academy secretary for global alliances; Past Chairman of the board of the Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Company (OMIC); Former director of the American Board of Ophthalmology; Past board director for the International Council of Ophthalmology; and Chairman of the Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee.
