Jan Tjeerd de Faber, current President of SOE, introduces the key aims of SOE. This year SOE are conducting a survey of firework-related eye injuries, and how these injuries can be prevented. Every year hundreds of people are blinded by consumer fireworks, and data from 25 countries show that this is an underestimated cause of preventable blindness. SOE advocate professional fireworks and a ban on consumer fireworks and promote.
