Prof. Querques has contributed to more than 700 peer-reviewed articles and over 20 books and book chapters as an editor or author, with a primary focus on retinal diseases (age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases, hereditary retinal diseases and ophthalmic genetics).
Prof. Querques has been a board member of the European Association of Retinal Specialists (EURETINA), and is currently a board member of the International Retinal Imaging Society (IntRIS), the Asia Pacific Retinal Imaging Society (APRIS) and the Italian Retina Society (SIR). He is a member, among others, of the Retina Society, the Club Jules Gonin and the Macula Society, and is the recipient of the Achievement Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the Young Investigator Award of the Macula Society. Prof. Querques currently serves as editor in chief/associate editor/editorial board member of Expert Review of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmologica, Ophthalmology and Therapy, Asia Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology, Retinal Cases & Brief Reports, BMC Ophthalmology, and American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports.

Dr Khanani founded the clinical research department at Sierra Eye Associates, which has since become one of the nation’s leading centres for clinical research. He has served as the principal investigator in over 120 clinical trials and continues to lead several ongoing studies. Dr Khanani contributes to national and international clinical trial steering committees and scientific advisory boards. His work also includes collaborative research examining real-world outcomes for newly approved treatments, with the aim of expanding and improving treatment options for patients with retinal diseases. In addition, Dr Khanani has been the first to perform surgical procedures in various clinical trials focused on sustained drug delivery and gene therapy. His extensive body of work includes numerous publications in highly regarded journals such as The Lancet, Ophthalmology and JAMA Ophthalmology.
A sought-after speaker, he is frequently invited to present at major national and international meetings. In 2021, Dr Khanani founded the Clinical Trials at the Summit meeting to foster discussion on clinical trial design and data.
Dr Khanani is a distinguished member of both the Macula Society and the Retina Society, and he has earned various honours throughout his career. In 2019, he was named Healthcare Heroes Physician of the Year by Nevada Business Magazine for his dedication to ophthalmology. In 2023, he was chosen to deliver the prestigious Ernst Bodenheimer Memorial Lecture at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University. Dr Khanani was also the recipient of the Macula Society Lawrence J. Singerman Medal in 2025, American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award in 2024, American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) Presidents’ Young Investigator Award in 2021 and the ASRS Presidential Award in 2024.
